What is an Undergraduate Degree?

Bachelor’s Degrees

A bachelor's degree (or honours, known as 'Hons') is a Level 6 course. They include titles such as Bachelor of Arts or BA (Hons); Bachelor of Science or BSc (Hons); Bachelor of Engineering or BEng (Hons); and Bachelor of Laws, or LLB. Sometimes these degrees include a first year of study and foundation to help you develop the tools you need to progress through your degree, often called "the foundation year".

Foundation Degrees

This Level 5 course is designed to complete two years of a three-year degree. We offer various subjects like Basic Arts Degree (Fda) and Basic Science Degree (FdSc). You can choose to extend your studies to get a full degree and another degree.

Top-up Degrees

Upgrading is a 6-year bachelor's degree that converts qualifications such as Foundation Diplomas or Higher National Certificates into a full degree, from another year of study.

Integrated Masters

We offer 7 combined degrees, guaranteeing you a Masters qualification. These courses require an additional year of study. Awards at the advanced level include Master of Science (MSci); Masters in Mathematics (MMath); Master of Engineering (MEng); and Master in Chemistry (MChem).

Diploma Apprenticeships

On this route, you will work for an organization and study for a degree at the same time. You will receive a salary, your employer and the government will cover your tuition fees.

Higher Technical Qualifications (HTQs)

HTQ provides training and skills for various industries. Level 4 qualifications are equivalent to one year of a bachelor's degree. Higher National Diplomas are level 5 courses equivalent to two years of a diploma, offering the possibility of completing a full diploma.

Certificate in Higher Education (CertHE)

CertHE is a level 4 qualification equivalent to one year of study and linked to work. Again, it can often be completed to a full degree.

Other Types of Undergraduate Degrees

Joint Honours Degrees

This type of course allows you to study more than one subject, combining them into one qualification.

If the title of the book contains "in" (history and politics, for example), you will spend the same amount of time in each subject as you will get the honors badge. And if the title of the book contains "and" - for example. International business (with Spanish) - this means that the first subject will be your main focus.

Diploma Sandwich

A study degree includes a period of work experience – typically, a one-year apprenticeship in a company (also known as a work placement year) in the third year of your degree. This is often referred to as "SW" in birth names.

For the duration of the course, you will usually be a paid employee of the organization. Once this step is completed, you will return to university for a fourth and final year of study.
